I started on my ripple blanket this week after a failed attempt at knitting the French Market Bag from Knitty. Everything was going so well until disaster struck in the washing machine - somehow the bag felted onto itself and I had this big uneven droopy mess. I felt so frustrated! I had been working on this for 3 1/2 weeks! So I crocheted something to take the edge off...again. That yarn is Knit Picks in Get Away and Vacation. I got them on sale, like seven months ago and they've been wallowing in my stash ever since. I had over 20 skeins of this stuff so I needed a project that would take care of them in a big swoop.
The pattern is from Jan Eaton's 200 Ripple Stitches and its called 'Pink Ripple'.
I fear I'm gong to have a bunch leftover when I'm done with it. I'm only doing two color repeats since its a baby blanket and I'm STILL going to have a ball leftover in each color. I plan on doing a boy version with the other colors and then just doing another baby blanket using all 8 colors. Oh, and the yellow (Sunshine) is so incredibly soft and soothing to look at. I would not object to a blanket made only of that it - it felt like butter going through my hands!
The yarn itself is very stretchy and while it is a bit awkward to crochet with it took care of the elasticity pretty well. Its a thick'n thin yarn and the blips of cotton made for a very weird and uneven foundation chain but the end product is actually quite even. Still easier to work with than boucle yarns, though.
Can you tell my ball winder came in? I wasn't able to get the yarn swift as my mother was buying it for me but her account was frozen because the bank thought that someone that stolen her card (not true). So I'm going to have to hold on til another Joann.com sale. Honestly, why did I wait this long to get a ball winder? This thing is RAD in every sense of the word.
